The committee that prepared the commemorative book for the Gratz Sesquicentennial of 1955, attempted to produce a comprehensive listing of all those persons who taught in the schools of Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. That effort was led by Lloyd M. Bellis, who was himself one of the teachers of the several one room schoolhouses that existed in the township from the first half of the 19th century to 1955, when most of these schools had closed.
Lloyd M. Bellis was assisted in developing the listing by the county superintendent’s office. The listing, unfortunately, does not match teachers with specific schools, nor does it give the years of service. Many of the teachers in the listing served several of the township schools during their careers. Names were only added in the time period in which the teacher first appeared, and in many cases there is an overlap into the next time period.
The schools in which these men and women taught were as follows: Geise School; Hoffman School; Kissinger School; Lubold School; Salada School; Shepley School; Troutman School; and Kessler School.
The listing is presented in four time periods.
