Harry E. Rush (1879-1948) – Pennsylvania Railroad Agent at Elizabethville

HARRY E. RUSH DIED THIS MORNING

Harry E. Rush, age 68 years, retired agent of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, died suddenly at his home, East Main Street, [Elizabethville], this Thursday morning.

Mr. Rush was a son of the late John Rush and Edith [Ferree] Rush, and was a native of Williams Township.

He was a member of Salem’s Reformed Church, town [Elizabethville], and of the Williamsport Lodge, F. and A. M., Williamsport Consistory, and the Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg.

At the time of his death Mr. Rush was serving as President of the Lykens Valley Bank and borough assessor.  He was also a trustee of Salem’s Reformed Church and a treasurer of the Sunday School; and was a director of the Elizabethville Water Company and treasurer of Maple Grove Cemetery.  He was a former Borough Councilman and member of the School Board.

Mr. Rush had been employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company forty-four years, during which time he had been stationed at Sunbury and Newberry, and twenty-five years as Agent at Elizabethville.  He entered retirement 1 December 1945.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Anna L. Rush; three sisters, Mrs. Norman Miller, Berrysburg; Mrs. Harvey Carl and Mrs. Richard Smeltz, of Spring Glen; and a step-son, Robert Heim, of Halifax.

Services will be held from the Buffington Funeral Home at 2:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon.  Rev. A. Levan Zechman, pastor of Salem’s Reformed Church will officiate and interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Funeral Home Saturday evening from 7 to 9 o’clock.
