An undated portrait of Martin P. Schaffner, who was born in Loyalton, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 29 October 1836, the son of John Henry Schaffer Sr. and his wife Susanna Schaffner.
Martin married Anna Maria Miller (1840-1915) and with her had at least eleven known children.
During the Civil War he served in Company I, 177th Pennsylvania Infantry, as a Sergeant, and afterward, collected a pension .
Martin P. Schaffner spent most of his life in Lykens Township, Dauphin County. He died in Millersburg on 18 May 1918, and is buried at the St. Peter (Hoffman) Cemetery in Lykens Township.
