Raymond Casner Jr. (1935-1948) – Fatally Wounded While Playing

BOY FATALLY WOUNDED WHILE AT PLAY

Raymond Casner Jr., 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Casner Sr., of Millersburg R. D., was fatally wounded by a 22 caliber bullet while playing with two brothers and a sister during a visit on the farm of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Casner, Middleburg R. D., Sunday afternoon.

The children were playing in the orchard near the barn, and the rifle, which had been placed on the ground, was discharged when one of the children accidentally stepped on the weapon, it was stated.

Snyder county Coroner Reuben Shaffer said the bullet entered the boy’s abdomen and lodged in his chest.  He was taken to the office of a Middleburg physician, who pronounced the boy dead upon arrival.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister:  James Casner, Donald Casner, and Mary Lou Casner, at home; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David Hower of Catawissa.

Services will be held from the Riegle Funeral Home, Millersburg, at 2 o’clock this Thursday afternoon.  Rev. E. E. Ehrhard, pastor of the Killinger Reformed Charge, will officiate and interment will be in the Hill Church Cemetery, New Buffalo.
