Korean Conflict – Harold Lee Neubold – Killed in Action, 1950

Cpl. Harold Lee Neubold Is First War Casualty From Millersburg Area

Cpl. Harold Lee Neubold, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Neubold, of Lenkerville, where he was born, has been reported by the Department of Defense as killed in action in Korea, 13 October [1950].  He would have been 22 years 29 October [1050].  Cpl. Neubold met death while serving with Headquarters Company, 1st Cavalry Division.

Following the death of his mother, Cpl. Neubold, and his sister, Miss Edythe Neubold, became guests at the Lewisburg Evnagelical Home, in May 1938, where he resided until July 1946.  He attended Lewisburg High School thru his junior year and completed his schooling at John Harris High School, Harrisburg, while residing with a brother.  He enlisted in the spring of 1947 and last spring reenlisted.  Most of his service, following basic training, was spent in Korea and Japan in occupation duty and he was recently transferred to Korea from Osaka, Japan, where he was engaged in clerical work.

Cpl. Neubold was the first ward of the Lewisburg Home killed in any war.  A brother, Pvt. Gene Neubold, of this place, was killed in action in World War II, 8 December 1944.

Cpl. Neubold is survived by his sister, Miss Edythe Neubold, of Washington, D.C., who was graduated from Lewsiburg High School last June, and five brothers, Leroy E. Neubold, Washington, D.C.; Fred Neubold, Harrisburg; James Neubold, Millersburg; and Robert Neubold and Edgar Neubold, Halifax R.D. 1; and a half sister, Mrs. Patrick Mahoney, Union, New Jersey.
