Chest X-Rays at the Gratz Fair, 1948

CHEST X-RAY TO BE GIVEN AT GRATZ FAIR, 22 SEPTEMBER [1948]

Men and women attending the Gratz Fair, Wednesday, [22 September 1948], will have an opportunity to obtain chest x-rays for the detection of unsuspected cases of tuberculosis, it was announced Tuesday.

Mrs. Henry W. Taylor, executive secretary of the Tuberculosis and Health Society of Dauphin and Perry Counties, said that the x-ray equipment will be housed in a trailer which will be parked near the sports arena.

X-rays will be made available to everyone over 15 years of age at a cost of $1 to cover the expense of operating the equipment and reading the films.

During one day at the Millersburg Farmers’ Fair, recently, more that 150 x-rays were made.

Mrs. John E. Petach and Miss S. Ruth Gensemer, Tuberculosis Society staff members, will be in charge of the trailer.  They point out that x-rays can be made at the rate of one a minute since it is no longer necessary to remove any clothing.

Health authorities point out that there are about 400 unknown cases of tuberculosis in Dauphin County, and that the x-ray is the only means of discovering these cases while they are still in an early stage.
