Laverne L. Rothermel (1930-1947) – Died of Accidental Self-Inflicted Wound

FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY FOR BIG RUN YOUTH

Laverne L. Rothermel, 17, son of Harry Rothermel of Big Run, was found dead Saturday evening in a field near his home, with a .22 caliber rifle wound, believed to have been accidentally self-inflicted while he was hunting groundhogs.

It was stated the young man had left the house that afternoon to hunt groundhogs nearby.  His body was found by an older brother, Elvin Rothermel, after Laverne failed to return home for supper.

Funeral services were held from the Reiff and Helt Funeral Home, Lykens, Tuesday afternoon and interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery.
