Emma S. [Hassinger] Riegle (1863-1934)

An undated portrait photograph of Emma Sybilla Hassinger, originally of Mifflin Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, daughter of Jacob Schmeltz Hassinger (1836-1913) and Lydia Ann [Gipple] Hassinger (1841-1904), born 29 November 1863.

The photographer is not identified.

Emma first married John E. Buffington (1849-1887), lived in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and with him had two known children:

  • Milton Oliver Buffington (1883-1955), who married Maude E. Klinger (1887-1952).
  • Charles Warren Buffington (1886-1958), who married Mabel May Weaver (1892-1973) and lived in Loyalton, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

After the death of her first husband in 1888, Emma married Daniel Isaiah “Isaac” Welker (1865-1932), who lived in Lykens Township, and with him had one child:

  • Annie Edna Welker (1889-1959), who married Freeman John Mauser (1890-1947), and lived in Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

It is not known if this second marriage ended in an official divorce (or whether there was a marriage with Isaac), but he did not die until 10 February 1932, and is buried at Wiconisco.

On 10 July 1909, Emma married Chauncey A. Riegle (1870-1936), a miner who lived in Specktown. She died as the wife of Chauncey on 28 May 1934 in Specktown and is buried at the Gratz Union Cemetery. Chauncey died on 4 December 1936 and is buried at the same cemetery next to Emma.
