
A five dollar bank note issued for the First National Bank of Gratz, Gratz, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 8 May 1909. The portrait of Benjamin Harrison appears on the face.
On the back side of the bank note is a scene described as the “Landing of the Pilgrims.”
The note was secured by United States Bonds or other securities.

The images of this note were found on Ebay and modified for presentation in this post by adding a strike line through the denomination on both sides. The note being sold was certified as genuine by PMG (Paper Money Guarantee) but was incorrectly identified as issued in 1902, although the date on the face is 8 May 1909.
According to a Gratz history, the Gratz National Bank received permission to organize in March 1909 and was officially chartered on 9 July 1909.
