Gratz News – November 17, 1926

The following news briefs were published in the “Gratz Items” section of a local newspaper for the week of 17 November 1926:

Charles Ney and family, of Valley View, visited at the home of Clarence Koppenhaver and Charles Hess.

Charles Tobias and son Fred Tobias, of Palmyra, visited the former’s brother, O. T. Tobias, Sunday.

We have some women in town who are not afraid to work on a farm. So they helped Jonathan Schminky to husk a 12-acre tract of corn and didn’t wear gloves. Pretty good.

Samuel Scheib and wife visited the latter’s father at the Fountain Springs Hospital.

Dr. Holman, President of the State Parent-Teachers Association, gave a very interesting talk in town. Every citizen of town, if willing to boost the Gratz Boro Schools and work for a better understanding of what the schools of town are doing and for their advancement, is eligible for membership. We need your help.

Blanche Hepler is visiting in Harrisburg at present.

Mrs. Joe Hartman left for the Sesquicentennial, Monday.

Mrs. Aaron Daniel visited at the home of O. T. Tobias several days last week.

Mr. Stroub, of Cross Roads, visited at the home of Jacob Riegel, Sunday.

Allen Klinger, of Lykens, moved to his grandfather, P. J. Artz last week.

James Kissinger, Henry Bower & Monroe Klinger are working at the Briquet Plant at Lykens.

Allen Willier has installed a radio.

Roy Blyler, of Valley View, was seen in town, Sunday.

Annie Coleman, of Harrisburg, is home to stay for a while with her mother, Mrs. Jacob Coleman.

John Rissinger, who lived east of town, died at the County Poor House last week and was buried at that place.

Mr. Deiter, of Lykens, visited at the home of Henry Bower, Saturday evening.

Clarence Portzline, of York, visited in town on Sunday and attended Sunday School and Church services.

Mrs. Harry Hess and Leo Roger and family visited the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Shade at Spring Glen, Sunday.

Elsie Bellis is clerking at the Kades Department Store.

Mr. Kades was to Harrisburg and New York last week.
