The painting was featured in an undated advertising supplement to the Citizen-Standard, Valley View, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, and was accompanied by the following caption:
Michael T. Zyla‘s “Last Train from Shamokin” captures the final run of Reading Company’s daily passenger service between Shamokin and Philadelphia.. Originally dubbed “King Coal” the No. 863 made its final round-trip on Friday, June 28, 1963. Zyla’s beautiful color rendering also highlights two of Shamokin’s famous landmarks, the C. K. Eagle Silk Mill and the James Madison Hotel. Issue size measures 15.5 x 26 and run in an edition of 950. Issue Date: December 1989.
