A recently discovered family Bible believed to belong to Simon Sallada (1785-1854), an early settler of the Lykens Valley, provides family researchers with information about early generations of the genealogy of the Sallada family.
The image shown above is the beginning of the family information handwritten on blank pages between the Old and New Testaments. It was screen-captured from a video produced by Roy W. Schreffler, who purchased the Bible on eBay. In order to see the complete genealogy, visit the video on YouTube and move the time counter to approximately 11:16 (minutes, seconds).
There is no indication as to the person who made the entries in the Bible, but if this is conclusively determined to be the Bible belonging to Simon Sallada, it would be considered a legal document that timely recorded the actual names of family persons and their dates of birth, baptism, marriage, and dates. At the present time there is no reason to conclude that the Bible did not belong to Simon Sallada, but because its discovery was so far removed from the recorded events, it would be prudent to have each entered fact checked against other known sources.
