Dauphin County School Directory, 1873-1874

On 20 November 1873, the Harrisburg Telegraph published a directory of School Directors and Teachers in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, for the school year 1873-1874:

Directory of the Public Schools of the County of Dauphin and City of Harrisburg, for the year 1873-4, Containing Names of Superintendents, Directors and Teachers with Post Office Address Attached.

The first part of the directory named the county officers, the lecturers at the annual institute, and the teachers holding specific teaching certificates.

County Superintendent:  S. D. Ingram, No. 113 Market Street, Harrisburg

City Superintendent:  D. S. Burns, No. 5 South Front Street, Harrisburg

Lecturers at the Institute:

  • Prof. Robert Curry, Assistant Deputy State Superintendent
  • A. N. Raub, A.M., Superintendent Lock Haven Public Schools
  • Prof. J. W. Shoemaker, Philadelphia
  • Miss Flora T. Parsons, Shippensburg State Normal School

Committee on Permanent Certificates:

  • L. O. Foose, Harrisburg
  • Miss M. E. Gill, Harrisburg
  • Peter S. Bergstresser, Berrysburg
  • Daniel Leffler, Millersburg
  • Henry Moyer, Campbellstown, Lebanon County

Teachers Holding State Normal Certificates: D. H. Bucher; D. W. Gross; G. A. Hendricks; Miss A. Watsoo; A. B. Stephens; Miss M. A. Butler; J. C. Bell.

Teachers Holding Permanent Certificates: L. O. Foose; Miss E. A. Bishop; W. H. Brown; Miss M. M. Tomkinson; P. S. Bergstresser; Miss M. L. Nolen; P. Mathers; Miss F. L. Johnson; Daniel Leffler; Miss J. Laverty; Henry Moyer; Miss Emma Wiley; D. G. Cannon; Miss Kate E. McFeeters;Miss M. E. Gill.
