Fences line the streets because the animals traveled these roads. Drovers herded cattle and horses through the country roads and town’s streets on the way to marker. Bryant Troutman told the story about Joe Laudenslager from Luxemburg. Joe had a bull tied to a wagon. He wanted to take the bull to Joe Phillip‘s butcher shop in town. The bull had horns and got loose. The bull was mad and ran into town. It tried to go into John Leitzel‘s store. The Laudenslager boys chased the bull away from the store front and shot him dead in the street. They then had a real problem. How do we get this dead animal to the butcher?
