Jonathan Hoover Sr. Farm, 1875

An undated photograph of buildings on what was the Jonathan Hoover Sr. farm of 117 acres in 1875, Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.  The date these building were erected is not known.

The land was part of two tracts of land that were originally granted to the Hoffman family by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

In 1929, the 117 acres were sold to Jacob Riegle and his wife Edna Riegle of Gratz.  Jacob Riegel had the first radio in Specktown and after a hard day’s work, the Reigle’s and their neighbors gathered around the radio.

The tract belonging to Jonathan Hoover Sr. was just north of the tract belonging to Jonathan Hoover Jr., as shown on the 1875 map cut (above).
