1200 Sport Fans See Clowns Beat Tremont In 12-Inning Game
Before a crowd of 1200 fans Tremont dropped a twelve-inning game to the Ethiopian Clowns on Tuesday night, 9-6.
Fans came early to see the Clowns put on their fancy fielding exhibition and stayed until the last man was out.
For five innings the teams battled on practically even terms, the Clowns holding a 1-0 edge as a result of several errors in the first inning. In the sixth inning they added four more and another in the eighth.
Tremont‘s first score came in the sixth inning when Patton lifted one over the right field fence for a home run. In the ninth Tremont put on a rally what was food for five runs to tie the score and send the game into extra innings. The features of the rally were three-base hits by Fullis and Stiely, pinch-hitting for Klock and Leidich.
Wolfgang went to the mound in the tenth and was charged with the defeat.
Harry Leidich, whose dad, Harry Leidich, was one of the greatest ball players ever produced in Tremont, made his first start on the mound for Tremont and turned in a well pitched game. His teammates gave him support and forced him to bear down in practically every inning. Most of the runs scored off his delivery were unearned.
