A 1949 photograph of the 12th and Market Street intersection at the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad Terminal Building, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Travelers between Philadelphia and Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania once began or ended their journey here, but by 1949, there was no Reading Railroad service to Lykens, so Lykens Valley rail riders had to drive or take a bus to Pottsville, where rail service was provided to Philadelphia. In 1981, the Philadelphia to Pottsville line was abandoned.
Note: Lykens was for a time the terminal on one of the Reading Railroad lines coming out of Philadelphia.
