Allen Shaffer, Millersburg and Harrisburg attorney, was installed on Saturday, May 24, 1969 as the Supreme Tall Cedar of the United States at the 67th Annual Convention of that organization in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Among the special activities was the presentation of greetings from Commonwealth Secretary Joseph J. Kelley on behalf of Governor Shafer. Also attending was State Senator William B. Lentz.

The program included a three hour parade on the resort’s Boardwalk which was headed by the band from Shaffer’s alma mater, Millersburg High School.

Approximately 15,000 members and their wives of the Tall Cedars from approximately 110 forests attended the convention.

The boys from the Metabolism Unit for Muscle Diseases were the guests of the Supreme Forest during this Convention. This Unit is supported by the Cedars in an effort to find a cure for the most prevalent muscle disease, Muscular Dystrophy. A report was submitted by the chairman of the Tall Cedars National Charitable Objective Fund as to the progress being made in the research being conducted.

In addition to maintaining law offices in Harrisburg and Millersburg, he is director of the Upper Dauphin National Bank, the Polk Charitable Foundation of Millersburg, the Upper Dauphin Industrial Corporation, and other business and non-profit corporations.

He is special counsel for the Joint State Government Commission.
