William Row (1825-1901) – Miner and Mail Carrier

WILLIAM ROW

William Row, another aged and highly esteemed citizen of Wiconisco died Tuesday evening at 9:15 o’clock of heart failure, after an illness of several weeks.

Deceased was born in Lykens Township on the 21st of June, 1825, north of Short Mountain, and was the son of William Row and Sarah Row.  He married Sarah Harman of Mifflin Township in the year 1848, the union being blest with 10 children – 4 of whom – 2 boys and 2 girls are dead.  The surviving children are Jacob Row, John Row, Jonas Row, George Row, Sarah Hamelehle [Mrs. Fred Hamelehle], Wiconisco; and Alice Kline [Mrs. Harry Kline], of Washington, D. C.

Deceased worked in the mines in early life and afterward hauled coal to local consumers for a number of years, after which he carried the mail from Wiconisco to the trains at this place [Lykens] for 27 years, resigning that position on account of old age, about two years ago.

The funeral will take place from the late residence at 2 o’clock this afternoon, Revs. T. L. Josephs and Frederick Getty conducting the services, after which interment will take place in Union Cemetery.
