Joseph E. Molko – Exclusive Fashion Shop in NYC, 1952

An article from the Lykens Standard, December 5, 1952, describing the new, exclusive gown shop opened by famed fashion designer Joseph E. Molko, originally of Wiconisco:

Visited By Actress

The Josef Gown Shoppe, owned and operated by Joseph E. Molko, formerly of Wiconisco, was visited by Judy Holliday, Broadway stage and Hollywood screen actress, who viewed his Fall and Winter, 1952-1953 collection of custom-made clothes.

Miss Holliday won great acclaim for her stage performance in Born Yesterday, two years on Broadway and later receiving the Academy Award for the same role in the movie production.  Her latest Hollywood release is with Aldo Ray in The Marrying Kind.  Miss Holliday was greatly impressed by Josef’s original designs and plans for her new wardrobe are being arranged.

Mr. Molko opened his own exclusive custom-made establishment under the title of “Josef” at 45 Christopher Street, New York City, on August 25, 1952 after four years as a designer and supervisor of the work room for the Rabbi Rosenthal Corporation, a custom-made and retail dress house.  Previously he attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art where photographs of his current work will appear in the 1953-1954 edition of the school catalogue.  He graduated June 1948 with honors from the Costume design Department receiving a cash award, and in 1942 was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Lykens.

Joseph E. Molko is the son of Mrs. Mary Molko and the late Paul P. Molko, of Wiconisco.
