Lenkerville – Millersburg Milling Company, 1967

A photograph taken in 1967 (later colorized) of the Millersburg Milling Company, Lenkerville, Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

The photo appeared in the Souvenir Book for the Bicentennial of Upper Paxton Township, 1767-1967, along with the following information:

The Millersburg Milling Company, located on the west side of Market Street and on the south bank of the Wiconisco Creek, occupies a site that was devoted to flour and grist milling since Civil War days.  The old stone mill that occupied this site was destroyed by fire in 1895.  It was in that year that the present mill was built.  Between 1903 and 1912 that mill was added to by the construction of the warehouse portion on the north side.  The timbers used in the construction of the mill are still intact and their size reflects the work of that day and age.  The stringers, 12″ x 12″ x 60′ long are typical of the type of construction used throughout the structure.  The ownership of the mills on this site changed frequently.  The present [1967] owner is a corporation headed by Charles Lester Novinger.  H. Milton Underkoffler, an employee, came to work there in the year 1914 and has been steadily employed there ever since.

It is the oldest industry in Upper Paxton Township.
