Wiconisco – Page’s General Store

A photograph from 2011 of the former building at 189 Pottsville Street, Wiconisco, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Note the sign over the door at right indicating “Page’s General Store.” The store was operated by Vesta [Page] Weaver (1906-1975) from around 1934 to her death. Mrs. Weaver also lived in the building, as was noted in her obituary.

This structure dated to the late 19th century when it was the Gerhart Hotel. In the early 20th century it was operated as the Hotel Pontius by Henry Pontius. He sold it to Lewis Wentzler, the Lykens brewer, who continued to operate it until Prohibition.
