Homer G. Koppenhaver (1877-1931) – Millersburg Hotel Proprietor

A photograph of the grave marker of Homer Garfied Koppenhaver, Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Mr. Koppenhaver was well-known in the Lykens Valley area as the proprietor of the Hotel Koppenhaver, Millersburg, which he took over after his father Isaac Koppenhaver‘s death.

Homer Koppenhaver‘s obituary appeared in the Elizabethville Echo, April 16, 1931:

MILLERSBURG HOTEL MAN DIED SUNDAY

Homer G. Koppenhaver, age 53 years, died at his home in Market Street, Millersburg, early Sunday morning after having been in ill health for several years.

Mr. Koppenhaver was a son of the late Isaac Koppenhaver and was born in Millersburg.  In his earlier years Mr. Koppenhaver extended his education at the Pennsylvania Military College and Gettysburg College.  He had been proprietor of the Hotel Koppenhaver, established by his father, since 1906 until a  few years ago, when the hotel business was discontinued.

Mr. Koppenhaver was well-known as a hotel man, a sportsman and dog fancier.

His mother, Mrs. Mollie Koppenhaver, is his only survivor.

Funeral services will be held from the residence at 2:30 o’clock this Thursday afternoon, Rev. F. C. Sternt, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and Rev. C. F. Salkeld, pastor of the Millersburg Methodist Church, will officiate.  Burial will be made in Oak Hill cemetery.
