Jonathan Baddorf & Jane [Row] Baddorf – 50th Wedding Anniversary, 1924

A newspaper photograph (Lykens Standard, March 14, 1924) of Jonathan Baddorf (1848-1939) and Leah Jane [Row] Baddorf (1852-1939) at their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The photograph was accompanied by a brief article:

MR. & MRS. JONATHAN BADDORF CELEBRATED GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY SATURDAY

Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Baddorf of Dayton, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home on Saturday, March 8th [1924]  About sixty guests gathered to spend the evening and wish these two dear people congratulations.

The Rev. Daniel A. Draper of Tower City United Evangelical Church was present and read the beautiful marriage ceremony.  Mr. and Mrs. Baddorf were the recipients of many beautiful gifts, among them being $82.50 in money, $50.00 of which was gold.  They also received a beautiful letter of congratulations from Rev. H. C. Heilner of Ashland, who was a former pastor at one time.

Mr. Baddorf was born in Bellestown, December 25, 1849, and is in his 76th year.  His wife who was Jane Row before marriage was born in Williamstown, October 16th, 1852, and is 72 years of age.

They were married at Dayton on March 8, 1874, by the Rev. W. H. Shoemaker, pastor of the Evangelical Church at Wiconisco and Lykens.  Their union was blessed with ten children, seven sons and three daughters, one son and two daughters having passed away.  The others are happily married and were in attendance at the celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Baddorf have lived for fifty years in their present home.  They are both in good health and are faithful attendants at Dayton United Evangelical Church of which they are members.

At the close of the delightful hours of entertainment and fellowship the guests were invited to the dining room where a splendid dinner was served.

It is good that God has spared Mr. and Mrs. Baddorf, both of whom have lived their three score and ten years with a few more. Their lives are an inspiration to their children and friends….
