A significant increase in the amount of freight traffic on the Summit Branch Railroad up to 1901 was attributed to business growth in Elizabethville, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. This clipping was from the Elizabethville Echo, 7 June 1901:
There has been a remarkable increase in the freight traffic of the Summit Branch Railroad at this place during the past few years. The output of the several wagon and coach factories, planing mill, and furniture factory, the hosiery mill, distilleries, foundry and broom factories have kept the station employees moving. The hide curing establishment of Romberger and Sons and the coal and grain business of J. A. Romberger have also helped a swell of business during the winter and spring.
