Organization of the Gratz Water Company, 1925

GRATZ ORGANIZES WATER COMPANY

The Gratz Water Company’s last meeting resulted in the Election of a Board of Directors for the year 1925.  Sufficient stock has been subscribed to warrant starting.  A number of shares are left for subscribers who have not been reported in the final amount.  The books will be closed soon and persons who have not been offered a chance should ask at once.  Subscriptions are subject to allotment.  The capital stock will be $25,000.

The Directors are J. M. Willier, Charles Zerfing, H. W. Hess, N. E. Klinger, William A. Brosius, and Harry A. Umholtz.  Organization took place Tuesday evening, February 3 [1925].

The water to suppy the borough comes from a spring known as the “cold spring,” one of the finest springs of the state.  The water was analyzed by chemists and pronounced pure and as good as there is in the state.  The outleet of the spring fills a 6-inch pipe and is never-failing.  This spring was chartered eight years ago to the Johnson Construction Company, who purchased it from O. T. Tobias for the consideration of $600.00 but one of the members died and the industry was dropped.  Mr. Tobias has turned it it over to the Gratz Water Company for the same amount.
