Alice [Tomchany] Angst (1928-2020) – Radio Station Owner & Talk Show Host

Alice Angst

Alice Angst, 92, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2020.

Born on March 24, 1928, to the late Charles Lazlo Tomchany and Mary Herman, she grew up along with five siblings in Arnot’s Addition, St. Clair [Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania].

Be-fore marrying, Alice worked in the garment industry.

She met her husband, John W. “Bud” Angst, in 1946, and the two bonded over their mutual love of music. She later earned her First Class Radio Operator license and worked in the Lansford based radio station (WLSH and WPAM) that they owned. There, she hosted the long-running radio talk show, Ask Your Neighbor.

Alice was also an accomplished home cook, and she contributed some of her own recipes to two cookbooks published under the title of that radio show.

Alice and Bud had two daughters, Bonnie “Bim” Angst of St. Clair and Lisa Angst of Nottingham. They also provided daily care to their three grandchildren who are now located in California, Washington, D.C., and Oregon.

Alice and Bud celebrated 70 anniversaries before he passed in 2016. In 2019, Alice celebrated the birth of her first great-grandchild.

In her retirement, Alice took up oil painting and left a trove of over 80 paintings finished in painstaking detail. She sang and soloed in her church choir. In her final year, Alice sang the Lord’s Prayer at her daughter, Lisa’s, wedding.

Alice was baptized at St. Michael the Archangel Orthodox Church, where she remained a lifelong member of the congregation. She was always gregarious and outgoing, and she was proud to serve on the church’s council and the kitchen committee. She was caring and loved to make the people around her laugh, especially when that meant being silly.

Interment and a memorial service will be scheduled for this summer. Arrangements by Naugle Funeral Home, Quakertown.
