Berrysburg – St. John (Hill) Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1870

A photograph taken about 1870 of the Hill Church, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Mifflin Township near Berrysburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

This log building was erected in 1798 and dedicated in 1800.  It was later weather-boarded and in 1856, a steeple was added.  A bell, cast in Philadelphia in 1856, was added to the belfry.

This building served the congregation until it was replaced in 1876 by a brick structure, which still stands today.
