Donald L. Schoffstall (1923-1944) – Killed in England in World War II

FUNERAL SUNDAY FOR WAR VETERAN

Funeral services for S/Sgt. Donald Schoffstall, of Williamstown, whose body was recently returned to the United States from Europe, will be held from the J. B. Ralph Funeral Home, Williamstown, Sunday afternoon.

Rev. K. A. Oblinger, pastor of the Evangelical Congregational Church will officiate and interment will be made at Williamstown.  Military rites will be conducted by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts of Williamstown.

S/Sgt Schoffstall was a graduate of Williamstown High School in 1941 and entered the service in 1943.  He lost his life 16 September 1944, while serving with the U. S. Army Air Forces in England.

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schoffstall [see note below], Williamstown; two brothers and four sisters, Kenneth Schoffstall, Marlin Schoffstall, Gail Schoffstall, and LouAnn Schoffstall, all at home; Mrs. Mark Maurer, of Lykens, and Mrs. Clarence Sturgis, of Westville, New Jersey.

Note:  According to other newspaper articles and information obtained on Ancestry.com, Donald Schoffstall‘s father was Arthur H. Schoffstall, not Walter Schoffstall, as stated in the article about the funeral.  Also, at the time of his death, Donald Schoffstall was survived by his wife, Lois M. [Devers] Schoffstall, daughter of Herbert Devers of Williamstown.  The couple was married on 23 March 1944 in Highlands County, Florida.
