The couple was married on 9 May 1896 in Lykens Borough and the extended family gathered on their Lykens Township farm to celebrate the anniversary.

Louise Lark, first row, may be a younger sister of Marie [Lark] Dietrich, and her first name may not be Louise. Mary Ellen [Howard] Hoover and Loretta [Howard] Boyer were sisters and friends of Lee Dietrich and John Dietrich, and later their fiancees. After Lee and John were killed in the mines in 1939, Mary Ellen Howard married John Elvin Hoover and Loretta Howard married George Boyer Jr.
