Former Elizabethville Hosiery Mill to be Converted to School, 1953

A brief article appearing in the Elizabethville Echo, July 16, 1953, told of the sale of the former Unrivaled Hosiery Mill to the Elizabethville Borough School District and the intention to convert the building into a school.

SCHOOL BOARD BUYS FACTOR PROPERTY

A deed filed at the Dauphin County Courthouse Friday, disclosed the sale by the Unrivaled Hosiery Mill of Williamstown, of a tract of land including a factory and other buildings at Spruce and Church Streets, town [Elizabethville] to the Elizabethville Borough School District, $7500.

The property was formerly owned by the Valley Shoe Company and was acquired for local school use on an emergency basis.

It is proposed, after remodeling and renovation, to use the first floor to house several grades.

A second article, August 19, 1953, appearing in the same newspaper, told of the awarding of the contract to convert the former factory into a school:

REMODEL BUILDING FOR SCHOOL USE

The Elizabethville Board of Education last week awarded the contract for remodeling the former Valley Shoe Company building, Spruce and Church Streets, to Oscar Rowe, contractor, of Millersburg.

The property was purchased recently from the Unrivaled Hosiery Mill, Williamstown, for school use on an emergency basis.
