Frank C. Campbell Called by Death
Frank C. Campbell, retired chief maintenance man at the Johnson-Baillie Shoe Factory, passed away at his home, 350 Market Street, Millersburg, Saturday morning, at the age of 87 years. Mr. Campbell retired from the shoe factory position in 1946 after a service of more than 50 years. He had been in failing health for several months and was bedfast two weeks.
Mr. Campbell was a son of the Late Mr. and Mrs. Peter A. Campbell and was born in Millersburg on 24 April 1863, and was a lifelong resident of this place. He was a member of the Millersburg Methodist Church for 70 years and took part in many of the church’s activities during that time. He served for many years as secretary of the Official Board of the church and taught Bible classes in the Sunday School for many years. He was also a member of the P.O.S. of A. and I.O.O.F. lodges, of Millersburg.
For a number of years Mr. Campbell had served as Chief of the Millersburg Fire Company and he also served several terms as a member of the Borough Council, being president of that body for ten years.
Mr. Campbell was secretary of the Millersburg Improvement Company when that organization constructed and financed homes on East Center and East Union Streets.
Mr. Campbell’s stalwart Christian character was reflected in an almost unbelievable control of temper; a genuine loyalty to the many duties which he performed, and faithful obedience to the needs and wishes of others.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Annie E. Campbell, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from the Sterner Funeral Home, North Street, on Tuesday afternoon, with the Rev. Marlin R. McCleaf, pastor of the Millesburg Methodist Church officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery, Millersburg.
