Gratz – Government Bodies & Agencies, 1990

That edition of the Citizen-Standard also featured a “Know Your Hometown” section about Gratz Borough:

Gratz, the feature of this month’s Citizen-Standard Extra, is in Upper Dauphin County, about 35 miles north of Harrisburg.  Population is about 680.

Following is a listing of the government bodies and other agencies that operate within the borough.

MAYOR:  Gratz mayor is Marlin Heim.

BOROUGH COUNCIL:  Borough Council meets every second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. unless otherwise scheduled at 6:30 p.m.  Meetings are held in the municipal building at 420 East Market Street, Gratz.

Council consists of the following members:  David Deppen, president; Renee Daniels, vice president;  Elizabeth Reed, councilperson; Robert Maurer, councilperson; Eddie Hartman, councilperson;  Rodney Shade, secretary-treasurer; Gilbert Koppenhaver, assistant secretary-treasurer; Greg Kerwin, solicitor; Harry Davis, tax collector; Sandra Kissinger, auditor; Cindy Shade, auditor; Light-Heigel and Associates, Inc., engineers; Celin Sitlinger, fire chief.

WATER AUTHORITY:  The Gratz Water Authority members include:  Russell Shade, chairman; Rodney Shade, secretary of water revenue fund; Lester Hoffman and Clarence Bingaman, water attendants; Greg Kerwin, solicitor.

RECREATION COMMISSION:  The Gratz Recreation Commission chairperson is Elizabeth A. Reed.  She takes care of ballfield scheduling and rescheduling and takes care of picnic reservations in the park.

The borough has also received a grant for recreation and plans to build a pavilion for picnics.  They are presently looking for a piece of land to build on.

POLICE:  The brough is part of the coverage area of the Lykens State Police.

PLANNING COMMISSION:  The borough planning commission has been in effect for the past four months.  Five board members include:  Kenneth Miller; Thomas Herb; Lori Schoffstall; Robert Belack; and Cindy Shade.

People planning subdivisions on their home must bring this to the planning commission’s attention.  Plans must be brought to Rodney Shade, secretary of the borough.  Eight copies of the plans are needed.  The building permit officer is Robert Maurer.  He may be contacted at [xxx-xxxx] for subdivision information.
