Hannah L. Riegle was born in Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, 24 November 1904.
Hannah’s father, Charles G. Riegle (1876-1913) died in the mines when she was about nine years old. Norman L. Riegle was Charles’ youngest brother and in 1920 was an undertaker in Robesonia. Hannah’s mother, Minnie [Coleman] Riegle (1880-1958) was left without financial support when her husband died, and welcomed the opportunity provided by Norman to allow Hannah to come to Robesonia to assist with his children, who were Hannah’s first cousins.
By 1930, Hannah had moved to Atlantic City where she was employed in the hotels as a waitress, and later as the main switchboard operator at the Hotel Morton. In 1944, she married Lawrence McMillan of Atlantic City. They had no children. Larry died in 1957. As a widow, Hannah continued to work in the Atlantic City hotels, but split her time between Atlantic City and Hollywood, Florida, until she retired. She then moved to Williamstown, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, to live with her sister, Lucy [Riegle] Budd. Late in life Hannah suffered from emphysema which was a result of a lifetime of chain-smoking. She died on 28 September 1977 at Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. She is buried with her parents at the Gratz Union Cemetery.
