Hegins News, April 1941

HEGINS: SOLDIERS HOLD MANEUVERS HERE

Coming from Indiantown Gap, a company of National Guardsmen in about 18 trucks, conducted maneuvers in Hegins Valley. The presence of the soldiers in the valley and their maneuvers aroused considerable interest….

Confirmation services will be held in Frieden’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, Rev. H. J. Naftsinger, pastor, on Palm Sunday at 6 p.m., when a class of 30 young people will be confirmed.

The Mixed Chorus and the Girls’ Ensemble of the Hegins Township High School will compete in the district forensic contests at Northampton, on Saturday. Among the instrumental solo contestants will be Harry Willier Jr., baritone and Betty Stiely, piano. The voice groups are under the direction of Miss Virginia Straub, supervisor of vocal music, and the instrumental contestants are under the direction of Bartel Schade, instrumental music supervisor….
