James M. Scheib (1888-1932) – Gun Death Ruled Suicide

HEGINS FARMER FOUND DEAD OF BULLET WOUND

James Monroe Scheib, 45, well known farmer of Hegins Township, was found dead in the garage at his home on Tuesday, a bullet wound in his head. He had been a miner, formerly employed at Good Spring until the mines closed about two years ago. Since that time he had resided on his farm in Hegins Township.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Minnie Scheib, his mother, Mrs. Catharine Scheib, two sons, two daughters, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Rev. A. E. Mentzer, United Brethren pastor, will officiate and interment will be made in the Evangelical Cemetery at Hegins.

Note: On the death certificate, the coroner stated that death was due to a “self inflicted 32 caliber rifle wound… suicide.”
