John Clifford Hoffman (1928-1945) – Lost Life in Highway Accident

LOSES LIFE IN HIGHWAY ACCIDENT

John Clifford Hoffman, 18, of Dillsburg, R. D. 3, was killed when his automobile and a truck collided on the highway near the bottom of the south side of Peters Mountain early Sunday.

Hoffman, who it was stated, was traveling alone, was thrown from the car.

Deputy Dauphin County Coroner Frank Heidel said Hoffman had sustained a compound fracture of the skull, a broken neck, and other injuries.

Police reported the truck was operated by Raymond A. Mosten, of Harrisburg.

Augustus Anderson, of Harrisburg, an occupant of the truck, suffered contusions of the legs.  His injuries were treated at the Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.

Funeral services for Hoffman will be held from the Baker Funeral Home, Third and Maclay Streets, Harrisburg, at 10 o’clock Friday morning, with further services in the Bethel Church, Matamoras.  The pastor, Rev. E. E. Fackley, will officiate and interment will be in Long’s Cemetery, near Halifax.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert H. Hoffman, two sisters and three brothers:  Shirley Hoffman; Eileen Hoffman; Charles Hoffman; Herbert J. Hoffman; and Joseph Hoffman, all at home.  Other survivors are his grandparents, Mrs. Martha Smith, of Neasho, Missouri, and Mr. and Mrs. John H. Hoffman, of Halifax.
