An undated portrait of John Henry Pontius, sometimes referred to as Henry Pontius, born 5 March 1801, the son of John Henry Pontius Jr. (1773-1826) and Elizabeth [Weiser] Pontius. He married Sarah Hammer (1812-1868) and with her had at least eleven known children. Much of his life was spent in the the area of Washington Township, Dauphin County. He died on 14 July 1859, and is buried at St. John (Hill) Church Cemetery, near Berrysburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
