Leslie K. Smith (1966-2023) – Millersburg History Museum Director

LESLIE K. SMITH

MILLERSBURG – Leslie Kay Smith, age 56, of Riverview Drive, peacefully passed on June 8, 2023 surrounded by her family, at the UPMC West Shore. She was born on October 2, 1966 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and is the daughter of Harry “Dutch” Long and Ann [Troutman] Long; and Dennis Leitzel and Janette Leitzel.

Leslie was the widow of Donald William Smith Jr., whom she was with for 30 years.

She was a graduate of Penn State University, Class of 1988, and received a bachelor’s degree in hotel and restaurant management.

Leslie was a proud board member and held the position of Museum Director for the Millersburg/Upper Paxton Township Historical Society. She was heavily involved with the community of Millersburg that she loved so much. Leslie enjoyed traveling and attending Penn State University football games with her daughter, Carly, with whom she shared an alma mater.

She is survived by her daughter, Carly Smith (companion McClain Fultz) of Philadelphia; Mother, Ann Long (husband Dutch Long)of Halifax; Father, Dennis Leitzel (wife Janette Leitzel) of Halifax; Brother, Keith D. Leitzel (wife Susan Leitzel) of Carlisle; Sister, Sherri Shiflett (husband Brian Shiflett) of Harrisburg; Companion, Rahn Tressler, of Millersburg; Step-son, Eric Smith, and step-daughter, Lyndsey Smith, both of Charles Town, West Virginia; 4 Step-Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial for Leslie will be held at the family’s convenience.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Millersburg/Upper Paxton Township Historical Society and the Ferryboat Association of Millersburg.
