Lykens – Dr. Zeldin Hospital, 1949

A 1949 photograph of the new Zeldin Hospital for maternity patients, Lykens, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.  The hospital opened in March 1949, and at the time, was featured in local newspapers.

From the Elizabethville Echo, 31 March 1949:

Above is pictured the new hospital built by Dr. Aaron Zeldin, of Lykens and Tower City.  It is located on Market Street, Lykens, adjacent to the P. O. S..of A. building.  The hospital is entirely fireproof, and is modern in every detail.  Built primarily for the care of obstetrical patients, it has been licensed by the state for any minor surgery and for medical patients.

At the present time the hospital is equipped with 14 beds for adult patients and bassinets for ten infants.  The is both ward and semi-private room service.  Modern metal hospital beds are use throughout.  Radiant heat eliminates radiators and provides  more even temperatures.  All lighting fixtures are recessed.  Wall painting is in cheerful pastel colors.  The nursery is especially cheerful and contains all the modern facilities for the proper care of infants.

The operating and delivery room is also complete in every detail..  X-ray, incubator, sterilization equipment, infant and adult respirators, and other facilities to meet any emergency are available.

The hospital will extend service to Blue Cross subscribers.

Inspection of the hospital is invited by Dr. Zeldin.
