Lykens – N. E. Snyder Jeweler & Optician, 1908

N. E. SNYDER – JEWELER & OPTICIAN

Another well-known successful business man here [Lykens] is Nathaniel E. Snyder, who since purchasing the jewelry business of John Sweager, in 1892, has branched out from time to time, largely increasing his stock, and not only established an enviable reputation as a thoroughly reliable business man, but has developed a prosperous and successful business. His store, on Main Street, East of Market, contains a line of clocks, gold and silver watches, jewelry, plated and solid silver ware and novelties. A specialty, and one in which Mr. Snyder has gained no little enviable repute as an expert, is the cleaning, adjusting and regulating of timepieces, and that good work is done and satisfactory prices charged is evidenced by the large number of fine watches that can be seen hanging on his hooks that have been left for repairs. Mr. Snyder is also a practical optician, testing eyes and adjusting lenses in accordance with the latest approved scientific methods. During the sixteen years Mr. Snyder has been in business here he has maintained a well-established reputation for honorable dealing, and no matter whether it was a piece of expensive jewelry or a cheap novelty, his representations as to the real value could always be depended upon, so that today, no business man in Lykens enjoys to a greater degree the confidence and respect of the general public. Mr. Snyder is now Chief Burgess of the borough and has served one term as a school director.
