A copy of a badly preserved news clipping from 1952 shows one of the last photographs taken of the covered bridge over Pine Creek, at Erdman, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. The exact date and newspaper name are not known, but this is most likely the last-known picture of the bridge.
The caption on the picture states:
Dauphin County Landmark Being Raised
This covered bridge between Erdman and Gratz in the Lykens Valley is being torn down and will be replaced by a modern one. Here, Naldy Leitzel, who owns the farm at the top of hill on this road near Gratz, came to take a last look. A few minutes later workmen started demolition.
Pine Creek, at the point of the bridge, flows north through the Klingerstown Gap and joins the Mahantongo Creek on the north side of the Mahantongo Mountain. According to other-known information, this bridge was also known as Klinger’s Bridge.
