Funeral Today For Mrs. J. C. Stroup
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Stroup, age 74 years, widow of Dr. J. Calvin Stroup, died at her home, 5230 Upland Street, Philadelphia, Monday, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Stroup was a daughter of the late William Deppen and Susan Deppen, and was born at Hickory Corners, Northumberland County, 23 July 1866. Mrs. Stroup had been a resident of Philadelphia the past twenty years.
The Stroup family formerly resided at Berrysburg and Elizabethville where Dr. Stroup practiced medicine a number of years. He died at Elizabethville in February, 1917.
Mrs. Stroup is survived by three sons and two daughters: Dr. Paul Stroup, and Dr. Clayton Stroup, of Philadelphia; Dr. Bryant Stroup and Gladys Stroup [Mrs. Edward Arten] of Drexel Hill; and Erma Stroup [Mrs. William Davis], of Sunbury. Other survivors are five grandchildren and a brother, Charles S. Deppen, of Philadelphia.
Funeral services will be held from the Buffington Funeral Home, Elizabethville, at 11:00 o’clock this Thursday morning. Rev. A. Levan Zechman, pastor of the Lykens Valley Reformed Charge, will officiate and interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
