Peter E. Stine (1861-1948) – Creamery Owner & Rural Letter Carrier

P. E. STINE PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY

Peter E. Stine, age 86 years, died at the home of his son, Hubert Stine in Berrysburg, at noon on Wednesday.  He had been in ill health for some time.

Mr. Stine was a son of the late Peter L. Stine and Elizabeth [Buffington] Stine, and was a native of Lykens Township.  He was a former resident of Mifflin Township and for many years operated the Stine’s Creamery, which he established in 1890.  He had also served for twenty-one years as carrier of the Elizabethville Rural Route before retiring in 1932.

Mr. Stine was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Elizabethville, the Woodmen Lodge, and was a former director of the Lykens Valley Bank, Elizabethville.

His wife, Mrs. Mary [Bonawitz] Stine, preceded him in death eleven years ago.

Survivors are three sons, Hubert Stine and Clayton Stine, of Berrysburg; and Earl Stine, Elizabethville, R. D..; nineteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Services will be held from the Hoover Funeral Home, Berrysburg, at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Rev. W. Z. Artz, pastor of the Lykens Valley Parish, will officiate, and interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville.

Friends may call at the Hoover Funeral Home, Berrysburg, from 7 to 9 o’clock Saturday evening.
