Road Junction at Clark’s Ferry

An undated picture post card view of Amity Hall, a structure at the road junction where the Clarks Ferry Bridge crosses the Susquehanna River from the west bank to the east bank.  The bridge, not pictured here, was the one that replaced a prior covered bridge across the river.  It was replaced in the 1990s by a more modern bridge which provided access ramps to lanes on and off the bridge. At that time, improvements were also made to the north-south traffic flow on both sides of the river by adding a second lane where possible.

The location of this crossing point was south of Halifax, Dauphin County, and north of the Borough of Dauphin.  It is of the only Susquehanna River bridge crossing between areas just north of Harrisburg and Sunbury, Northumberland County.

The post card caption reads, “Amity Hall, Junction of William Penn Highway U. S. 22 and Susquehanna Trail U. S. 11 at Clark’s Ferry North of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.”
