Ruth A. Warfel (1936-1938) – Killed By Truck

CHILD FATALLY INJURED IN ACCIDENT FRIDAY

Ruth Warfel, two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Warfel, was fatally injured in an accident near their home in Small Valley last Friday [11 November 1938].

According to advices, W. C. Groff, of Millersburg, driver of a gasoline truck, had stopped at the Warfel home to make delivery of fuel.

Ruth and two sisters, Hilda Warfel, 3, and Esther Warfel, 4, had been playing outside the Warfel home. It is believed that as Groff got into the truck and started away, Ruth got too close to the vehicle and was hit by the body of the truck and knocked to the ground.

The child, who had sustained injuries of the head and body, was pronounced dead by a physician who was summoned.

Groff continued on his delivery route, unaware of the accident. until told upon his arrival at Rife.

In addition to her parents and two sisters, the child is survived by a brother. Lee Warfel, at home; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kinsinger and Mr. and Mrs. John Warfel, all of Halifax, R.D.

Funeral services were held from the residence Sunday afternoon and interment was made in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elizabethville.
