Schuylkill Haven – Reading Railroad Station

An undated photograph (later colorized) of the Philadelphia and Reading Railroad Station at Schuylkill Haven, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.

June 30, 1981 was the last regularly scheduled passenger train on the old Reading Railroad route from Philadelphia to Pottsville. The last operator of the rail service was SEPTA (Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority). The stations connecting the two cities (Pottsville and Philadelphia) on the 93.6 mile route also lost passenger rail service: Schuylkill Haven; Auburn; Hamburg; Shoemakersville; Mohrsville; Leesport; Reading – Franklin Street; Birdsboro; Monocacy; Pottstown; Linfield; Royersford; Phoenixville; Valley Forge Park; Norristown – De Kalb Street; Philadelphia – North Broad Street.

Future blog posts will picture stations on this route that also lost rail service as the result of the shut-down of the SEPTA (Southeast Pennsylvania Transportation Authority)’s Pottsville-Philadelphia line.

I love to see all the history!
Do you have any photos from Summit Station, Pa. It’s my understanding that there was a railroad station, general store/post office there on what is now Fair Road.
    Thank You ?
