Simon L. Daniels (1882-1926) – Hoffman Church Janitor Died of Indigestion

INDIGESTION ATTACK FATAL

SIMON DANIELS DIES EARLY TUESDAY MORNING

Simon London Daniels died at his home about 4:30 Tuesday morning, aged 46 years and 15 days; death was caused by an attack of acute indigestion and a weak heart. He was in good spirits all day Monday, but became ill at nine o’clock that evening, suffering intense pain for several hours.

Dr. Morgan, who was called and rendered all aid possible until midnight, and as the patient was resting easy at that time, the doctor returned to the office. About four o’clock in the morning, he was in pain again, Mrs. Daniel went down stairs for water and when she returned she saw that her husband was in a critical condition, and called her neighbor, but when Mrs. Longaboch responded, life had fled.

For nine years, Mr. Daniels had been the Janitor at Hoffman’s Church and was always a faithful worker in the Sunday School and C. E. Society of the Church.

Mr. Daniels was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Daniels, born in Lykens Township, October 11, 1881, baptized by Rev. Engle, November 20th, and was confirmed as a member of Hoffman’s Reformed Church on May 8, 1897 by Rev. John J. Stauffer, and united in marriage to Margaret Ellen Hoover on October 12, 1901, by the Rev. S. P. Brown.

His widow survives, and also one son, Guy Daniels, of Loyalton, one daughter, Grace Mrs. Mark Romberger, of Elizabethville, four grandchildren, his other, two brothers, Ulysses Daniels of Harrisburg, Fred Daniels of Millersburg; five sisters, Jennie, Mrs. Stites; Milo, Mrs. Earl Weaver; Beula, Mrs. Jacob Row of Harrisburg; Lottie, Mrs. Philip Fulkroad of near Berrysburg; Edna, Mrs. William Hoffman, of Gratz.

The funeral services will be held from his late home, on East Broad Street at 9:30 on Friday morning, Rev. C. P. Wehr officiating. Further services in the Hoffman’s Reformed Church, with interment in the adjoining Cemetery. Funeral director Reiff and Helt.
