Specktown – Curves in the Road, 1948

pa-specktown-curve-001a

William E. Dietrich and Helen [Hoffman] Dietrich are seen in this photo standing alongside the sign adjacent to their property on the “Old Specktown Road”, Specktown, Lykens Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, about 1948, just before the big road project which straightened out one of the worst blind curves on the road.  Unfortunately for the Dietrich’s, the “New Road” for which construction began shortly afterward, cut through the middle of their farm.

Above, Harold Dietrich, their son who grew up in the farmhouse, poses atop the sign.
