Witold Zukauskas (1912-1926) – Williamstown Boy Dies from Railroad Accident

WITOLD ZUKAUSKAS

Witold Zukauskas, aged 14, of Williamstown, on June 25, had his right leg completely severed between the knee and hip when a car under which he took shelter from the rain moved sufficiently to pass over it. Unknown to him a locomotive came to move the draft of cars and in coupling up sufficient force was used to cause the wheels to pass over the leg, completely severing it. He was immediately taken to the Williams Valley Hospital, where further amputation was found necessary. He died at 7:15 P.M. Friday, death resulting from gangrene and blood poisoning.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Zukauskas, of 335 Julian Street, Williamstown, and brothers Frank Zukauskas and Theodore Zukauskas. He was a member of the Church of the Sacred Heart. Funeral services were held Monday, June 28th, being conducted by Rev. James F. Clark, pastor of the church of which deceased was a member. Burial was made in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
